With her usual elegance, with which she made her mark last month at the Venice Film Festival, Amal Clooney once again attracted all eyes last night during The Albies awards ceremony, organized annually by the Clooney Foundation for Justice. The renowned lawyer and activist was accompanied (of course) by her husband, George Clooney, to this evening that brought together some of the best-known faces in film, fashion and philanthropy, including Meryl Streep, Meg Ryan and Charlotte Tilbury.
However, as is often the case, it was Amal who stole the absolute limelight after appearing in a stunning brown on-trend Versace gown (yes, designed by the newly-minted as creative director, Dario Vitale) that conquered by the impressive work of its pleats. The piece, fluid cut in the skirt part, featured a multitude of gathers that enhanced the waist and an off-the-shoulder neckline that brought a hint of discreet sensuality.
For the first time in the event’s four-year run, the guests — Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson and Jacinda Ardern, to name a few of the 400 who attended — walked a red carpet leading into the Natural History Museum in London. In prior years, the Albies were held at the New York Public Library.
Moving the event to England was mostly a result of good timing, Mr. Clooney said. The couple was scheduled to be in Britain already, because Ms. Clooney is introducing a partnership at Oxford University that focuses on using artificial intelligence to enhance access to justice, accountability and the advancement of international law, according to the Blavatnik School of Government.
