Amal Alamuddin as Consel to Ben Emmerson in Pakistan from 11th to 13th March 2013

Amal Alammudin served as Counsel to the UN Inquiry on the use of armed drones led by the Special Rapporteur on Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights.  Ben Emmerson, QC, who launched a formal investigation into the civilian impact of the use of US drones and other forms of targeted killing, focusing on the applicable legal framework, and a critical examination of the factual evidence concerning civilian casualties. Confident that this important step would lead to firm recommendations being made to the UN General Assembly concerning the duty of States to conduct effective independent and impartial investigations into the lawfulness and proportionality of such attacks in Pakistan, The Foundation for Fundamental Rights presented a delegation of civilian victims of US drone attacks in Waziristan to the Special Rapporteur in Islamabad from 11th March to 13th March 2013.

The stories and facts of the deaths and injuries caused by the US drone strikes in Waziristan were presented to the Special Rapporteur in detail along with evidence of the damage caused by these attacks and briefs of Foundation for Fundemental Rights initiated litigation in domestic courts of Pakistan.
